Step 1 – Submission and Diagnosis
At this stage, we just need the device(s) and a completed submission form along with payment of the evaluation fee. The diagnosis determines the exact failure mode of the drive, which can reveal a logical, electronic, mechanical or service area issue. Our comprehensive report will be emailed to you, outlining: -
The confirmed mode of failure
The probability of recovery in clear terminology (from low to very high )
The steps involved in getting a recovery
The finalised fixed cost breakdown for each available service level
There are two sections in this document that will need to be completed if you would like us to proceed with recovery.
1) Your ‘must have' data. We will always endeavour to recover all data from the device. The data you specify will determine ultimately if the recovery is successful from your point of view. If not, we're not going to burden you with useless data you don't need, and of course, no recovery fee will apply.
2) Your authorisation, service level selection and payment details.
Step 2 – Recovery
Upon receipt of a signed recovery authorisation, we will proceed as soon as possible with data recovery.
The necessary repairs are made to the device in order to get it functioning. If the drive needs to be opened in order to facilitate such repairs, the work is done in a Class-100 clean air environment to avoid particle contamination. Once the repairs are complete and the drive is deemed recoverable, an exact copy (or image) of the data is made to a second suitably sized medium. At this stage, the data content of the image can be cross checked against the customer's data requirement so as to confirm successful recoverability. The data is then extracted to our recovery server, from which it is copied to the selected medium (usually an external hard drive) and checked.
