What has happened?

Different problems need different recovery methods

Deleted files or a format prompt

Stop saving files to the affected storage. Do not format it or reinstall the operating system; further writes can replace the data you need.

Hard drive recovery → SSD recovery →

Damaged, clicking or not detected

Switch it off and ask for advice. The fault may involve electronics, internal components or the storage itself; symptoms alone do not establish the cause.

External drive recovery →

A failed RAID array

Keep every drive in its original bay order. Avoid rebuilding or reinitialising the array before speaking with a recovery specialist.

Data loss? Do this first

Power the device down and avoid DIY recovery attempts.

Continued use can overwrite recoverable data or turn a manageable fault into permanent damage.

How data recovery works

What happens when you send us your device

From your first call to checking and returning your recovered files.

01

Talk to us and submit your device

Tell us what happened and which files you need. We explain what to send and how to deliver it to our Ballycoolin premises, in person or by post or courier.

02

Diagnosis and quotation

Our engineers assess the fault and explain the proposed work, quotation and expected timescale. You approve the work before recovery begins.

03

Recovery at our Dublin laboratory

Our team carries out the agreed recovery and keeps you updated. The method depends on the device and the fault, with the aim of retrieving your important files.

04

Check and receive your files

We check the key data and prepare it for return, encrypted where applicable. We agree collection or delivery and can help you access the recovered files.

MEET THE SPECIALISTS

Speak directly with the team handling your recovery

From the initial assessment through to the secure return of recovered files, you can communicate with the Dublin team responsible for your device.

Before you send your device

Costs, timing and getting your files back

Speak with our team about the device, the files you need and the terms that apply to your case.

How much does data recovery cost?

The quotation depends on the device, its capacity, the fault and the work needed to recover the data. Replacement parts and return arrangements can also affect the cost. Contact our team to discuss your case; we explain the quotation before you approve the recovery.

Are there evaluation or additional charges?

Ask which evaluation terms apply to your device before submitting it. Any applicable diagnosis, replacement-parts, return-media or delivery charges should be explained in advance, including charges that may still apply if recovery is unsuccessful.

What does “No Recovery, No Professional Fee” mean?

If the agreed data cannot be recovered, no professional recovery fee applies. This does not necessarily cover evaluation, consumed replacement parts, return media or delivery. Confirm the applicable terms with the team before authorising work.

How long does data recovery take?

This depends on the fault, device and any parts or specialist work required. After evaluation, we explain the expected timescale. If the data is urgent, tell us when you first contact the team.

Will all my files, names and folders be recovered?

The result depends on the condition of the storage and whether data has been overwritten or damaged. Tell us which files matter most so they can be checked where possible. Some recoveries may not preserve all original filenames or folders.

How are recovered files checked and returned?

We check the recovered data and discuss the required files with you. Return storage, encryption where applicable, the authorised recipient and collection or delivery arrangements are agreed with the team.

Does my device stay in Ireland, and who can access my data?

All recovery work is carried out by Critical Data at our Dublin laboratory. See Data Security and Confidentiality for information about handling devices and recovered files.
